What money should I bring?
The national currency is the Peso. US$, Euros, Canadian Dollars and British Pounds can be readily changed at the numerous cambios in town. There are also many ATM's.
How do we get to the villa from Cancun airport?
There are several options:
If you are planning to rent a car, it is an easy 40 minute drive from the airport. Detailed directions will be sent to you shortly before your departure.
Our management agents can arrange an airport transfer for your group - a driver will wait for you at the airport: this can be arranged with our management agents and they will send details at the same time as they send the rental contract.
The Airport Shuttle bus is a direct and efficient service. The ticket booth is just past the car rental desks in the airport. The air-conditioned service is direct to Playa del Carmen main bus terminal. This is about a 10 minute walk to the villas, or a couple of minutes by the numerous taxis.

Detailed directions will be sent by our management agents.
From the airport, take the main highway south to Playa del Carmen (direction Tulum). You will continue on the highway for about 40 minutes and pass through Playa del Carmen. As the highway reaches the southern part of town, there is a left turn signed Playacar. Take the first Playacar sign, pass the Holiday Inn and then the Playacar entrance will be on your right at the end of the road. For Casa Vela - pass through the entrance and turn right; Casa Vela is a short distance on your right. For Casa Selva Caribe, bear left at the traffic circle. Drive past the Aviary which is on your right, take the next right and then immediately right again. The Playamar villas are set at the end of this road.
Is the water safe?
We drink bottled water! The drinking water dispenser will be full on your arrival.
Are there any supermarkets in town?
The closest is 'Chedraui' which is back on the main highway in the direction to Cancun, on the right hand side - it is only a 2 - 3 minute drive. Walmart is in the centre of town a few blocks inland from 5th Avenue, but well signed.
Internet access
Both houses have free wi-fi internet access - just bring your laptop. The code will be given on arrival.
Restaurant recommendations
Quinta Avenida is full of great restaurants - it is hard to get anything other than a great meal in Playa! From international cuisine to traditional Mexican and some good quality restaurants that specialise in local Mayan dishes. There are also some excellent restaurants with a more local atmosphere scattered around town - especially on Av 30, opposite 'Mega' supermarket
What services do your management agents offer?
They are dedicated to ensuring that you have a great stay and in addition to making sure the villa is just right, they will meet you and be pleased to arrange any of the following: tours, baby sitting services, car rental, in house cook service, chauffer or car rental, cell phone rental.
Away from the beach - what trips are there?
In Playacar, the aviary will occupy 1 to 2 hours, best early or late in the day.
Day trips / tours - Xcaret, Tulum/Xel-Ha, Coba/Cenotes, Chichin Itza, Sian Ka'an Biosphere Nature Reserve, Jungle tour and visit isolated Mayan communities, Catamaran cruises, Dolphin swims, Fishing, Horseback riding, ATV jungle tours. All these tours can be arranged either by our agents or in town.
Playacar Golf Course
All golfers will wish to make use of the famous Robert van Haag designed golf course that is right by the villas. The clubhouse is just past the Reef Beach club and round fees include all snacks and beverages that are supplied on the beverage carts constantly making the rounds of the golf course.

Access to the Playacar Reef Beach Club is included in your rental, but is subject to availability.
Large groups - how many can you accommodate
Casa Vela sleeps up to 8. Casa Selva Caribe sleeps 8. They are just a few minutes walk apart, so 14 - 16 can be accommodated with ease. Our management agent looks after other villas in the same area, so we can obtain quotes and details for even larger groups.
